Coal & Log Ban 2021
The government have recently announced that from February 2021 House Coal and wet or unseasoned logs will be banned. The banning of these fuels is aimed at improving air quality a local level and help the country meet targets for Co2 emissions. This ban is not a complete ban on the use of open fires and stoves and a wide range of suitable fuels will still remain available.
From February 2021 we will no longer be able to supply House Coal in pre-packed bags from garages and stores. Our current understanding of the ban is that we will still be able to deliver coal until February 2023 or until stock run out. You will be able to burn any fuel you have remaining at home after this date. This will affect 3 products we currently sell: Medium House Coal, Small House Coal and Wildfire. There are a range of Smokeless Fuels that are a direct replacement for these products, such as Homefire or Homefire Ovals.
The sale of unseasoned or wet logs will also be restricted from February 2021. Logs sold in volumes less than 2m3 will need to be at a moisture content of 20% or less to comply with the new regulations. Our current range of logs are already well seasoned to less than 20% moisture content so we are confident our log supply is already compliant.
